چکیده

We report on a long-term monitoring campaign of 1E 1841−045, the 12-s anomalous X-ray pulsar and magnetar candidate at the center of the supernova remnant Kes73. We have obtained approximately monthly observations of the pulsar with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) spanning over two years, during which time 1E 1841−045 is found to be rotating with sufficient stability to derive a phase-connected timing solution. A linear ephemeris is consistent with observations of the pulse period made over the last 15 yrs with the Ginga, ASCA, RXTE, & BeppoSAX observatories. Phase residuals suggest the presence of “timing noise”, as is typically observed from young radio pulsars. These results confirm a rapid, constant spin-down for the pulsar, which continues to maintain a steady flux; this is inconsistent with most accretion scenarios.

Discovery of hard non - thermal pulsed X - ray emission from the anomalous X - ray pulsar 1 E 1841 - 045

We report the discovery of non-thermal pulsed X-ray/soft γ-ray emission up to ∼ 150 keV from the anomalous X-ray pulsar AXP 1E 1841-045 located near the centre of supernova remnant Kes 73 using RXTE PCA and HEXTE data. The morphology of the double-peaked pulse profile changes rapidly with energy from 2 keV up to ∼ 8 keV, above which the pulse shape remains more or less stable. The pulsed spectr...

Glitches in Anomalous X-ray Pulsars

We report on 8.7 and 7.6 yr of Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) observations of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) RXS J170849.0−400910 and 1E 1841−045, respectively. These observations, part of a larger RXTE AXP monitoring program, have allowed us to study the long-term timing, pulsed flux, and pulse profile evolution of these objects. We report on four new glitches, one from RXS J170849.0−4...

Contamination of short GRBs by giant magnetar flares: Significance of downward revision in distance to SGR 1806–20

We highlight how the downward revision in the distance to the star cluster associated with SGR1806–20 by Bibby et al. reconciles the apparent low contamination of BATSE short GRBs by intense flares from extragalactic magnetars without recourse to modifying the frequency of one such flare per 30 years per Milky Way galaxy. We also discuss the variety in progenitor initial masses of magnetars bas...

Multi-colour (JHKS) imaging and photometry of the field of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar AXP 1E 1841−045 is analysed in the light of new, accurate coordinates from Chandra (Wachter et al, 2004). From excellent quality images, we find multiple sources in and around the position error circle. Of these, none can be confidently identified as the infrared counterpart. The limiting magnitudes reached we...
